Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has warned that arrogant liberals in the media and Democrat Party who automatically assume the left will crush the GOP during the 2018 midterm elections may very well be in for a rude awakening.
Why? Mainly because of the lies they’ve all told.
First they “lied about the tax bill in an effort to convince most Americans their taxes would go up,” he wrote in a column for Fox News. They likewise claimed only the wealthy would benefit from the bill and further argued that the wealthy would merely hoard the money they had saved.
Then they “took surveys of people who opposed the GOP bill based on the false information supplied by the media.”
And lastly they “talked again and again about how unpopular the Republican plan was and how it was going to weaken Republican candidates in 2018.”
Except after President Donald Trump signed the GOP’s tax bill last week, the left’s lies began unraveling at the seams.
First, corporations began handing out bonuses and even raising their minimum wages, thus contradicting claims by Democrats that they’d simply sock away the extra money.
Second, reports began surfacing proving that the left-wing-concocted narrative that only the wealthy would benefit from the tax bill was a lie:

All that’s left now is for the American people to wake up before the midterms next year. Will they, though? Gingrich certainly believes so.
“The American people will be positively surprised and pleased by the degree to which Republicans kept their word and actually put more money in taxpayer pockets,” he predicted.
And when they wake up, he added, the left’s “dishonesty will be vivid at a personal level.” Especially the dishonesty of the media.
“People will be able to compare their personal experience with the news media’s fake reporting and endless bias,” he wrote. “As the truth sinks in, the ability of the liberal media to shape opinion will decline even further.”
Last but not least, those Democrats who voted against the bill will desperately start backtracking “as people look at their family budgets and realize Democrats in the House and Senate wanted Washington bureaucrats to have more money, rather than hard-working Americans,” Gingrich concluded.
While cocksure liberals might laugh at Gingrich’s prediction, it really all boils down to a single question: Do the American people prefer higher taxes with bigger government or lower taxes with smaller government?
If a majority of Americans prefer the latter, then the Democrats will indeed be in big trouble come 2018.
